Every second Sunday of the month a large number of Hatherop pupils attend the Family Service at St Swithin’s Church Quenington. We have a short rehearsal after school on a Friday in which we prepare the songs we are going to be singing and often the children choose to sing solos or duets in one of the hymns. It is much appreciated by the local parishioners and there are now about 30 pupils who take part, although not everyone can attend each time because of family commitments. Traditionally the Church Choir has an end-of-year swimming party which the children enjoy very much.
Hatherop pupils frequently raise money for a range of charities. In recent years they have raised money for:
We are very fortunate to have various members of the community who give their time to help with school activities. Parents, neighbours and local villagers come to school regularly to hear children reading, assist in running the Cookery Club and Gardening Club or accompanying the children on school visits.
The school visits the Fresh Air Sculpture Show which takes place every other year in the neighbouring village of Quenington. The whole school walks across the fields to touch, feel, draw and discuss the exhibits.
The PTA provide refreshments on key days during the two week programme helping to raise further funds for school projects.
CHEQS: The school has been able to offer its facilities during the summer holidays to the CHEQS Summer Programme. This is a voluntary-run programme of activities for children of primary school age from the five villages in the local area. The programme have benefited from the use of the school buildings, gardens and play area and borrowed sports equipment during the holiday period.
This land based educational charity is right on our doorstep and the school regularly benefits from its educational programme aimed at raising awareness of the countryside and the environment. The children love their regular visits to the ‘Forest School’ and local woodland and greatly benefit from this outdoor learning.
Every Wednesday the children enjoy themed and dramatised Bible stories, each around 10 minutes long as part of the daily Collective Worship assembly. A team of local volunteer storytellers from the CHEQS benefice use drama, mime, props, costume, and the children themselves, to present Bible stories in ways that they are lively, engaging, informative ... and great fun for everyone involved!
