HATHEROP PRIMARY MAKES SAVINGS FOR GREEN BRITAIN DAY!

Pupils took part in Green Britain Day on Friday 10th July.

In the run up to the day, the pupils collected pledges written on ‘Green Feet’ to show how they plan to take action against climate change. Parents, fellow pupils and members of the local community pledged for example, not to leave their electrical appliances on standby, turn their taps off whilst cleaning their teeth and organised a collection of used shoes for recycling.

On Green Britain Day the pupils wore something green and to save electricity, they kept classroom lights off. Lessons were held outside and the pupils decorated eco-friendly reusable bags with collected recycled materials. Council member Josse White said, ‘the school secretary Mrs Skinner was the only one allowed to use a computer on Friday, and instead of a hot school lunch we all had cold baguettes which included lettuce grown in our own garden’.

GOING ONCE, GOING TWICE!

The PTA at Hatherop C.E. Primary School made a promise to raise as much money as possible for a set of new laptops. They kept to their word by organising an Auction of Promises and raised an astounding £9,043.  The successful evening attended by parents, staff and members of the local community saw Moore Allen and Innocent’s well renowned auctioneer Philip Allwood rap the hammer down on 89 lots which included a session shearing sheep, a pony and carriage ride, a cake a week for 10 weeks and a room makeover. PTA Chair, Orla Hall said, “ It was a highly entertaining and enjoyable evening and we are delighted with the amount raised. The generosity of the donors and bidders was really heart warming.”
