School Games Platinum Mark Award

This award reflects the wide variety of sports offered in our PE curriculum, After School Club and wider sporting fixtures. It also reflects our use of PE specialists Miss Cole and Mrs Clark. We thank Mrs Clark for all her help in gaining this award and for our continued success in Sports competitions.

Sports and P.E.

The children have the opportunity to participate in a range of sports, either indoors in the school hall or outdoors in the school grounds or at the football field. This includes gymnastics, dance, games and swimming. There are different sports clubs throughout year, run by teachers, teaching assistants, qualified sports coaches or volunteers from the local community. These include tag rugby, football, tennis, cross country running, netball, rounders, cricket, and hockey.

The children also have the opportunity to participate in sporting competitions at local and county level. We have achieved great success in many events including Cross Country, Indoor Sportshall Athletics, Hockey, Tag Rugby, Swimming, Football and Kwik Cricket, sometimes at county level. Every child in Key Stage 2 participates in the District Sports, competing in one field event and at least one track event, as well as participating in track relays. A number of children each year go on to represent our District in the Area Sports, and some have set new Area records.

We host a Small Schools Football Competition annually, when 10 to 12 small village schools come to our football field to take part.

The government is providing additional funding to improve provision of Physical Education (PE) and sport in primary schools. In our case, we have used it to fund:

  • specialist swimming teachers
  • transport to swimming lessons and competitions
  • a PE specialist working alongside teachers
  • after school clubs
  • running inter-school competitions, including football and sports hall athletics

Thanks to this funding, the children experienced specialised PE teaching and increased supervision, which enabled full use of the school field and provided professional development for staff. We were able to take part in many competitions and provide a range of after school clubs.
